Commander Ricky McIver is a native of Wray, Georgia, and graduated from Broxton High School in 1981. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in April, 1981, in the delayed entry program and was subsequently selected for promotion to Chief Petty Officer in 1991. 

In 1993, he applied and was selected for a commission via the Navy’s Limited Duty Officer Program as a surface communications specialist. In 2008, Commander McIver laterally transferred to the Information Professional Community.  During his time in the Navy, Commander McIver successfully completed numerous operational and shore tours and, along the way, achieved significant education milestones.

Commander McIver completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technical and Vocational  education at Valdosta State University (2003), Masters of Science Degree in Business and Technology Management at University of Phoenix (2005), and Masters of Art in Strategic Studies from the Naval War College (2011).

Commander McIver’s shore tours include Naval Submarine Base, King’s Bay Georgia, NTCC Hampton Roads ­ Communications Watch Officer, NAS North Island ­ Ground Electronics Maintenance Officer, NCTS Diego Garcia ­ Operations Officer, Commander under Seas Surveillance Command – Director of Communications and Information Systems, COMSEC Material Issuing Office ­ OIC, and NCTAMS LANT Norfolk, VA ­ Operations Officer.

Operational tours include Individual Augmentee (IA), Combined Security Transition Command Afghanistan (CSTC-A)  ­ Deputy Comms Chief, USS Kitty Hawk ­ Radio Officer, USS Mount Whitney ­ Communications Officer, and USS George Washington ­ Combat Information Systems Officer (CISO), USS Virginia ­ Comms watchstander, USS America ­ Technical Control Leading Chief Petty Officer.

Commander McIver¹s decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medals (8), and Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal and various other service awards.
