A Douglas woman was jailed recently after authorities determined her methods of corporal punishment exceeded the limits allowed by law.

Officers responded to a residence on Ethel Street after receiving a complaint of alleged child abuse. The complainant told police that she had observed 45-year-old Joann Marie Jackson beating her juvenile son excessively with a belt.

Police examined the juvenile victim and determined he had marks on his body they believed to be consistent with ‘excessive disciplining,’ as noted in the responding officer’s report.

Jackson was arrested at the scene and charged with one count of first degree cruelty to children.

I don’t know the full details of this situation, but I tell you one thing; the reason these kids ages 25 and under are so disrespectful, uncaring, unruly, out of control and just plain MEAN are because they did not get there butts whipped like my brother and I did when we were coming up. I’m so tired of the “time out corner” and “getting control of your feelings before acting out”. Children need discipline people. Yes, there is a difference between child ABUSE and WHIPPING. Big difference. Some parents don’t have sense enough to know the difference, and that’s when the discipline turns into abuse. The problem is……people try to start beating some sense into the kids when they become teenagers and by then it’s too late. (I’m not saying that’s what happened in this lady’s case) They should have started back the first time when the little one talked back to the parent or threw a toy and broke something and was told to sit in “time out”. “Time out” should have been taken by the parent to smack them on the booty a couple of times and THEN sent them to “time out” to think about why they got smacked. I got whipped up until I was 17 years old. I hated it. It hurt. It hurt my feelings. I hated my parents under my breath, but I NEVER said it out loud or I knew I would get another whipping. But a few hours later, I loved my parents again, and I love them even more now at 44 years old for loving me enough to whip my butt when I needed it to make me a better person and to teach me right from wrong. Cause and effect. I don’t know about you, but it was a subject when I was in 6th grade. Teach it to your children people. Let them know they do bad things there are bad outcomes. What’s a tail whipping from you when they are young compared to a tail whipping from a jail mate named Butch in prison because they weren’t whipped for taking things that weren’t theirs? My opinion. Everyone has one.

And would report this again there is a difference in whipping a child than hitting them all over there body. This child never moved…… so the force was not needed nor did he need to be hit in the face with a belt nor over his head…..

You do not know what this kid did. You saying that she went to far but when that kid is robbing you are in jail for something it’s the parents fault.
