On October 2, Westside Elementary School hosted “Wild About Reading Night, Leaping Lexiles!”

The evening’s festivities were kicked off in the gym by a wonderful performance by first grade students. Immediately following, assistant principal Amy Hughes shared critical information about reading instruction and Lexile levels with those in attendance.

Afterwards, Tyler Lott and Chris Adams with Adams and Lott Reptiles shared various reptiles with students and talked about how they learn about the animals by reading informational texts. Upon exiting the gym, parents visited classrooms to receive grade level specific handouts on reading and student Lexiles, feasted on a free meal in the cafeteria, and visited the book fair.

Special thanks to the following businesses for making donations for this event: Bobby’s Treat Shop, Burger King, Jerry J’s, and Five Star Food Service.

Westside Wildcats are WILD about reading!
