Maria Williams of Fitzgerald is the first recipient of the “Charles Eames Travel Fund.” Williams is a student on the Coffee campus. The winner for September is Brittany Harrell, who is also from the Coffee campus of Wiregrass.

Charles Eames, a retired librarian from Waycros, has found a unique way to help college students at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College at the Ben Hill-Irwin and Coffee campuses, as well as from other areas all across South Georgia. He made a donation to the Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation North recently to provide gasoline scholarships each month to help students with transportation expenses to and from the college campuses.

To apply for the gas scholarship, students are asked to submit a brief essay explaining why they feel they deserve the scholarship along with their goals and career plans.  A winner is selected each month and given a $150 gas card.
The deadline to apply for this month’s scholarship is October 17. For more information about how to provide a scholarship to students at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College or to make a donation to the Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation North, contact Mona Paulk, WGTC Foundation North executive director, at 229-468-2102.
