After several months of renovation and preparation, Still Waters Christian Women’s Outreach Center is ready to open. The residential environment will be much more than just a place to live; it’s a place of spiritual healing for women as they grow in Christ and prepare for workforce reentry.   The facility is the collaborative effort of community leaders and volunteers who share the desire to provide a safe home for women while they work a program to regain a productive life.

Two homes are located on the eleven acre site.  The original home will provide space for nine women and the rear home will allow for six additional residents. A small chapel that will double as the education center for residents has been renovated adjacent to the rear residential unit.

JoAnne Lewis, spokesperson for the board of directors, shared, “Drug abuse is a deterrent for growing a skilled and qualified workforce in our community and the nation.  Drug abuse is counteractive of our efforts to grow business and jobs. It also destroys families.  Through my professional and personal life, I recognize the need for programs to address both the family and the workplace.”

With the help of the community and regional partners, renovation work has brought the project to a point of readiness.  On Sunday, December 14, at 2 p.m., a grand opening and ribbon cutting is planned.  Following brief remarks, the facility will be opened for tours while an outdoor Christian concert entertains guest on the grounds.  Still Waters is located at 2699 Hwy. 221 N. in Douglas.
