Mrs. Alene Smith Whitley, age 75, of Nicholls, Georgia, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 10, 2026, at her residence following a sudden medical emergency.
Mrs. Whitley was born April 27, 1951, in Broxton, Georgia, to the late Pat Smith, Jr. and the late Mary Olive Wooten. She found her greatest joy making a loving home with her late husband, Carl Arthur Whitley, whom she shared 58 precious years prior to his passing last year. Together they raised 3 beautiful children. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as an active member of First Assembly of God for more than 25 years. She loved the Lord and was fiercely dedicated to her family. She enjoyed shopping and cooking for family gatherings. Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters: Lavaughn S. Jones and Darlene S. Kirkland; and three brothers: Larry Smith, Charlie Smith, and Alvin Smith.
Mrs. Whitley leaves behind her three children: Timothy Whitley and wife, Susan, of Nicholls, Georgia, Andy Thomas and wife, Myra, of Broxton, Georgia, and Michelle S. Joyce and husband, William, of Nicholls, Georgia; 10 grandchildren: Amanda, Andrew, Karlee, Courtney, Brittany, Taylor, Danielle, Lilly, Emma, and Ellie; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Randy Smith and wife, Clarice, of Nicholls, Georgia; one sister, Sally S. Turner and husband, D.J., of Broxton, Georgia; along with a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Per Mrs. Whitley’s wishes, the family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
