The Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce joined community members, friends, family, and local leaders on Thursday, January 22, 2026, to celebrate the official ribbon cutting of Alice & Co., with their new location being 327 Peterson Avenue South in downtown Douglas.
Alice & Co. is a locally owned flower shop offering wedding florals, sympathy arrangements, everyday bouquets, plants, and flowers for life’s special moments — big and small. The shop also provides florals for proms, homecomings, and celebrations throughout the year. The ribbon cutting event featured a strong community turnout, a flower bar welcoming guests into the new space, and remarks from key community leaders who shared their support for the business and its impact on downtown Douglas.
Alice & Co. began as a small, home-based venture, originally creating homecoming and prom bouquets for family members. What started as the owner, Janie Merritt, helping loved ones quickly grew into a passion for floral design and serving the community. The business is deeply rooted in family and is named after the owner’s great-grandmother and namesake, Alice Waldron—a hardworking woman with a big heart whose legacy continues through the shop.
Family support has played a central role in the growth of Alice & Co., including Janie’s husband Casey, their children Clee and Joanna, parents, sisters, and extended family. The values of hard work, kindness, and caring for others were passed down through generations, inspired by Janie’s grandparents, longtime local business owners in Douglas.
Opening a storefront in downtown Douglas was a natural step for Alice & Co., as Janie was born and raised in the community and is now raising her own family here. Before opening the shop, she earned a specialist degree in early childhood education from the University of Georgia and taught for eight years. That background continues to influence the business today through hands-on flower classes and opportunities to teach others.
Alice & Co. looks forward to serving the Douglas community and being a trusted place for weddings, celebrations, hard days, happy days, and everything in between.
