Two women were arrested and one remains at large following an altercation at Georgian Woods Apartments earlier this month. The incident happened around noon on March 6, 2026.
According to a report from the police department, an officer responded to an assault call at the apartment complex. The victim reported that she had walked down to the Dollar General and was walking back to the complex when a black Honda Accord drove up. The Accord nearly hit the victim, according to witnesses. Before the car came to a stop, a passenger, identified as Cerenydi Thornton, 19, of Douglas, opened door, hitting the victim. The report says Thornton then jumped out of the car and began fighting the victim. Witnesses reported that had the victim not jumped out of the way of the car, she would have been run over.
Another individual attempted to break up the fight but, the report says, Khadija Hayward, 31, of Douglas, jumped on the person who was trying to stop the altercation. The second victim was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center for treatment due to injuries sustained in the fight.
The alleged assailants fled the scene before officers arrived. Less than an hour later, an officer found the Honda at a North Pearl Avenue address. Thornton was inside the home and was taken into custody. Another woman inside the home, Clarissa Nichols, 25, of Douglas, had active warrants and was arrested. Officers took a battery warrant on Hayward but she has not been apprehended. Hayward also has multiple other active misdemeanor warrants pending.
Thornton was charged with aggravated assault and criminal trespass (she had been banned from Georgian Woods due to previous incidents). She also had bench warrants for criminal trespass and failure to appear. Nichols was picked up on a bench warrant for child restraint violation and probation violations for seatbelt violation and driving with a suspended license. Nichols was released but Thornton remains in the Coffee County Jail.
