Antonio Rivas, age 84, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at his home. He was born on June 6, 1942.
His survivors include his wife, Maria A. Acevedo-Rivas of Douglas, Georgia; seven sons: Jose Antonio Rivas of Douglas, Georgia, Isaias Rivas of Douglas, Georgia, Jose G. Rivas, Humberto Rivas, Jaimie Rivas of Douglas, Georgia, Benigno Rivas of Douglas, Georgia, and Salvador Rivas of Douglas, Georgia; two daughters: Maria Elena Rivas of Douglas, Georgia, and Refugio Rivas of Arkansas; 35 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers: Salvador Rivas of Mexico, Rafael Rivas of Mexico, and Fidel Rivas of California; and one sister, Refugio Rivas of California; also many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death not only by his parents but by his beloved sons, Guillermo Rivas and Francisco Rivas.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 27, 2026, in the chapel of Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, Georgia, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a rosary beginning at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery.
