A Coffee County jury found Adam Johnson not guilty on three counts of child molestation Thursday afternoon. The alleged incidents occurred in 2018 and involved two children, neither of whom were Johnson’s. He was arrested on Sept. 27, 2018 and remained in jail until being released on bond in his first bond hearing, which took place on Oct. 16, 2018. He was released on a $15,000 and had remained free ever since. The state did not have a very compelling case and lacked physical evidence. Officers from the Douglas Police Department and several other agencies are conducting an operation on East Ethel Street related to the investigation of Maria D. Diaz, 28, who has been missing since Feb. 3, 2023. Thursday morning, police officers, along with officers from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, Code Enforcement, South Georgia State College Police Department, and other departments in both the city and county government, began searching a site on East Ethel Street. Range Robinson, a junior weightlifter at Coffee High School, finished 15th in the world at the 2023 International Weightlifting Federation World Championships in Durres, Albania, on Wednesday. Robinson made three out of six attempts for a total of 278.3 kilograms (557 pounds). He hit two out of three attempts on the snatch, successfully making 106 kilograms (233 pounds) and 110 kilograms (242 pounds). The evening of Saturday, March 18, was an eventful one in Douglas and Coffee County. Not long after an alcohol-fueled brawl broke out in downtown Douglas along the sidewalks of North Peterson Avenue, another calamity took place, this one in Baymeadows. And alcohol was also involved in this one. Allegedly, of course.
