A few good Samaritans saved the life of a child whom they found on a busy state highway on Sunday. The incident happened on Sunday afternoon when several individuals riding in a Chrysler 300 found a small child in the middle of the Fitzgerald Highway at the intersection of Pine Forest Drive in Touchton Woods. The Douglas Police Department has a new officer on patrol. Earlier this week, the police department adopted Mando, an abandoned puppy, as the department’s mascot. On his first assignment, Mando helped recover about $2,500 in stolen money. Thursday morning, Mando received his honorary criminal justice degree from Wiregrass Technical College. He’s still in the early phases of the field training program, a large portion of which is devoted to potty training right now. Chief Shane Edmisten promises that once that’s taken care of, Mando will move on to the next phase of training.

Coffee Trojans offensive coordinator Kevious Johnson has been hired as head football coach of the Turner County Rebels. Coach Johnson has served as the Trojans’ offensive coordinator for the last two seasons. He was also a member of the Coffee coaching staff in 2017, when the Trojans played for a state championship against Lee County. Lee won in overtime. Coach Johnson played high school football for Coffee head coach Robby Pruitt at Fitzgerald High School. He then had a record-setting career as a running back at Wofford. A Coffee Correctional Facility inmate has been released from prison after DNA testing showed he was not guilty of the crimes for which he had been convicted, according to the Georgia Innocence Project. According to a post on the Georgia Innocence Project’s Facebook page, Kerry Robinson walked out of CCF a free man on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, after spending 18 years in prison. Former Coffee Trojan Tyreek Hill has been named one of the Athletes of the Decade by In the Game Magazine. Hill played football and ran track at Coffee High. Underutilized most of his football career, nobody really understood just how talented he was until his senior year in track. He won the 100 and 200 meters at the state track meet as a senior.
