Douglas MainStreet Director Dave Hughes and his wife, Sheila, who owns Kribs & Kradles downtown, were hit by a car on Friday, Feb. 7, as they walked across the street from Kribs & Kradles to eat dinner at the Fern Bank. According to a post made on the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page, Dave was relatively unharmed. Sheila, however, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Jacksonville, Fla., for further treatment. The Chamber’s Facebook post stated that Sheila suffered severe head trauma with sub-dermal hematoma. The Georgia State Patrol investigated the accident but DouglasNow.com has not yet obtained…

Bret Davis, 39, and Amanda Seagraves, 39, both of Vidalia, have been arrested and charged in connection with breaking into cars and stealing credit cards. The Douglas Police Department had photos of the couple allegedly using the stolen credit cards and had asked for the public’s assistance in identifying them. Citizens came through and provided information that led to the identification and eventual arrests of Davis and Seagraves. They have been charged with entering an auto, financial transaction card theft, and financial transaction card fraud. They are being held in the Coffee County Jail.

Wednesday morning, crews from the Coffee County Fire Department and Midway Truck Parts fished a GMC Yukon from a creek in eastern Coffee County. The vehicle ended up in the creek late Tuesday afternoon when its owner, Mark Adams of Douglas, swerved to miss a deer that was crossing Highway 158 East near the Highway 64/Wilsonville crossroads. Adams, who was traveling east, made an evasive maneuver to his right. He missed the deer but drove off a concrete culvert into the creek – a drop of about six feet from the road to the water. Adams escaped the accident unharmed.…

Tyreek Hill became the first Coffee Trojan to win a Super Bowl when he helped lead his Kansas City Chiefs back seemingly from the dead against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday night in Super Bowl LIV in Miami Gardens, Fla. The Chiefs were down 20-10 in the fourth quarter when the Chiefs went on a 21-0 scoring run to defeat San Francisco 31-20. The 49ers kept Hill out of the end zone but he still managed to lead all Kansas City receivers with nine catches for 105 yards. Two troopers who were to be assigned to the Douglas post of the Georgia State Patrol were among the 32 troopers of the 106th trooper school who were fired Wednesday for allegedly cheating on a portion of the school’s tests. Tuesday, the Georgia Department of Public Safety held a press conference and announced that the students of the 106th school – 33 in all – had allegedly cheated on an online speed detection test in October of last year. The Coffee County School System has hired Jeff Hammond, former head coach at Spalding County High School and offensive coordinator at Colquitt County High School. Hammond left Colquitt after the 2018 season and has served one year at Spalding County. Last season, Spalding went 1-9. Hammond served as Colquitt’s offensive coordinator two different times while former head coach Rush Propst was there. His last year, the Packers made the semifinals of the state playoffs and averaged 43 points per game. The Irwin County School System announced Coach Nobles’s passing in a Facebook post earlier today. The poorly planned robbery ended up landing three people, including one McDonald’s employee, in jail.
