A man who found a debit card abandoned in an Alma parking lot apparently thought he’d treat himself to a few early Christmas gifts, but authorities had other ideas. Officials stated 49-year-old Stacy Tyle Lee discovered the card in the Bacon County Hospital parking lot and later utilized it on four separate occasions for personal gain. Alma police subsequently arrested Lee, charging the debit card bandit with four counts of financial transaction card.

Douglas Mayor Tony Paulk and city commissioners voted last week to amend the municipal alcoholic beverage ordinance which will allow alcoholic beverages to be consumed and sold on Sundays. Douglas citizens were given the chance to vote on the ordinance in November during the primary election. Citizens voted to allow Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages, as well as Sunday sales for consumption of alcoholic beverages. The amended alcoholic beverage ordinance took effect on December 12, 2016. A man who allegedly opened fire on two victims earlier this month at Roundtree Park has been identified and arrested by Douglas authorities. Police officials stated officers located and detained 25-year-old Markease Robinson at his home on Monday. Around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, Robinson allegedly approached two people at the park and fired on them before running off. Neither victim was injured during the incident. Robinson has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and reckless conduct. A man wanted in connection to an armed robbery that occurred in Alma last weekend has been arrested, officials reported Monday night. Alma Police Chief Michael Leslie stated 18-year-old Shawn Morgan turned himself in to authorities around noon Monday, Dec. 19. Morgan was being sought by police following an incident last Saturday in which a man was robbed at gunpoint while sitting at a stop sign. Local law enforcement discovered nearly $300 in counterfeit currency, along with high grade marijuana and packaging materials, after a passenger in a vehicle allegedly tried to discard the contraband during a traffic stop last Friday. Coffee County officials initiated the stop on Hwy. 221 N. for reckless driving. According to authorities, the driver attempted to elude officers briefly before pulling into a residence on Spring Meadow Rd. Officials say an Alma man was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning by three men while stopped at a stop sign on E. 5th St. The victim reported he was struck in the head with a handgun, and his wallet, containing $180 and several credit cards, was stolen. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office has positively identified 17-year-old Tydarius Akeem Reed of Douglas as the victim found along a railroad track in western Coffee County early Monday morning. Reed’s body was discovered after local authorities responded around 2:30 a.m. Monday to a portion of the CSX railway system between Dennis Harper Rd. and Palmetto Rd. in reference to a person being struck by a train.
