A woman who pleaded to felony drug charges earlier this week apparently decided to celebrate by doing more drugs; unfortunately, she got caught again. Authorities say Amanda Kay Wynn was stopped by officers on U.S. Hwy. 221 in the area of Bo Jo Ella Dr. for weaving over the roadway just hours after appearing in Coffee County Superior Court. Over 100 area children will be guaranteed to have a very merry Christmas this year thanks to the annual Shop With a Cop event. One hundred twelve children from 43 families were treated Thursday evening to a shopping spree at K-Mart, escorted by public safety officials from the Broxton Police Department, Coffee County Fire Department, Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, Coffee Regional Emergency Medical Services, Douglas Fire Department, Douglas Police Department, Georgia Pardons and Paroles, and Georgia State Patrol. Conrad and Nicole Sayer, owners of trailer dealership Cargo Trailers Unlimited, were jailed and charged recently on four counts of felony theft by deception after authorities say they duped several customers out of nearly $15,000. In late October, deputies were given a telephone number to make contact with the CEO of Thompson Home Builder & House Remodeling in Mobile, Alabama. The victim explained to authorities that he had contracted with Cargo Trailers Unlimited on August 27, 2014, to purchase a cargo trailer for $6,100. Detectives with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office are reporting the arrests of several individuals they say are responsible for a number of recent thefts and burglaries. On Dec. 6, a burglary was reported at the office of Douglas Mechanical on U.S. Highway 211 North. The owner told officials someone entered the business and stole several items, including a Titleist golf bag with over $2,475 worth of clubs in it. All lanes on U.S. 441 just south of Douglas and north of Atkinson County were blocked for several hours Thursday afternoon as emergency crews worked to clean up a chemical spill. According to officials, a trailer transporting liquid nitrogen fertilizer lost a wheel around 1 p.m., spilling the contents over the roadway. The highway was eventually cleared and normal traffic flow resumed around 5 p.m.
A 24-year-old Coffee County woman is facing charges of first degree cruelty to children and aggravated battery after her 15-month-old child suffered a traumatic brain injury. In a press release issued by the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, officials stated the original information received by detectives was that the alleged offender, Amber Nicole Grantham, and a male friend had taken the child to Coffee Regional Medical Center on October 19, where she reported the child was having seizures. Douglas businessman Shaun Sharma received an early release from his felony probation Tuesday morning in Coffee County Superior Court. Sharma was convicted of one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in 2013 on charges stemming from a 2007 incident. He was subsequently given two years on probation. A 23-year-old Douglas man was sentenced to 20 years of probation Tuesday morning in Coffee County Superior Court after pleading guilty to one count of statutory rape. Keith Samuel Smith admitted to having consensual sex with a 14-year-old female during an incident that occurred earlier this year. Testimony given Tuesday revealed Smith and the victim were at a party at the Fountain Inn motel when the two engaged in intercourse. Jimmy Carrol Kirkland, age 47 of a Ramblewood Rd. address, faces multiple charges including aggravated stalking, abuse of an elderly person, and obstruction of a 911 call stemming from an incident that occurred in October.
