The day after an Atkinson County woman allegedly attacked her husband with a machete, Senie Benefield Jr., 30, of Douglas, allegedly also injured someone in Coffee County with a machete. The incident happened on May 28, 2024, on Second Avenue in the Oak Park community. Dustin Jordan of Douglas has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that happened on Highway 135 across from Optima Chemical on Friday, February 8, 2019. Early that morning, Jordan struck and killed John Aubrey Pond, 28, of Willacoochee, and did not stop after the accident happened. A Douglas woman has been arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine after a vehicle in which she was riding was stopped and searched in Triggs County, Kentucky. According to a story posted on wkdzradio.com, Candice Kirkland, 22, of Douglas, was riding in a vehicle with Jamison Kassinger, 24, of Cadiz, Kentucky, when a Trigg County deputy stopped their vehicle Sunday afternoon. The report says that the officer stopped Kassinger for driving with a suspended license. Johnny Jackson White, 57, of Douglas, remains in the Coffee County Jail on aggravated assault (family violence) charges after a domestic dispute during which he allegedly pointed a loaded shotgun at his wife and told her that he would “f’ing kill” her. According to a report from the sheriff’s office, on Thursday, May 23, 2024, deputies responded to an assault call. A 22-year-old Douglas woman was jailed and later released after she allegedly assaulted two nurses at Coffee Regional Medical Center last week. According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department, a deputy with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office transported Shasmine Sirmans, 22, of Douglas, to CRMC, on May 27, 2024. EMS had been called to Sirmans’s location because she was, as the report said, “having a mental breakdown.” As a result, Sirmans had become aggressive with her family, according to the report. On May 28, 2024, Heather Lankford, 49, of Douglas, was arrested and charged with insurance fraud after she allegedly took out an insurance policy on her ex-husband without his knowledge, an action that caused her ex to fear for his safety.
