On August 14, 2024, two Douglas police officers responded to a prowler call on Pearl Avenue. What they found was a suspect sitting in a golf cart who was in possession of suspected illegal drugs. According to a report from the police department, the call came in around 3 a.m. Two officers responded. When they arrived on the scene, there was no one around the home. A 45-year-old Douglas man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly used an air fryer as a weapon during a domestic dispute. The incident happened just after midnight on August 14, 2024. According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department, officers received a call of a domestic dispute in progress on Bo Jo Ella Drive. When they arrived, they found the victim lying on the floor of the carport suffering from abdominal pain. She was also bleeding from a wound on her head. One person is deceased following a Sunday morning crash with a tractor-trailer on Highway 32 West. Involved were a Chevrolet Tahoe and a 2022 Freightliner owned and operated by Walmart. The accident happened around 2 a.m. Sunday in the area where Golden Pond Road and Oliver Vickers Road intersect with Highway 32 near Ambrose. Coffee 911 began receiving calls describing a Tahoe traveling west on Highway 32 that was driving erratically. A badly decomposed body was found in southern Jeff Davis County near Snipesville this weekend. Because of the state of decomposition, officials have not been able to determine the identity of the victim or the cause/manner of death. According to a press release from the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and other first responders received a call on Bennie Byrd Road (just off the Broxton Highway) in the Snipesville community in reference to what appeared to be the remains of a human body. On August 7, 2024, two Coffee County residents learned that a temporary protective order means exactly what it says – no contact at all for any reason. According to a report from the sheriff’s office, two individuals, Julio Gonzalez and Misty Harper, were arrested after they allegedly violated a TPO to, as they explained it, help the victim in this incident move. Harper and Gonzalez are mother and son. The report states that the caretaker for the victim had seen Gonzalez and Harper at the victim’s house on August 4. Former Douglas city manager Terrell Jacobs has been named to the same position in Albany. According to WALB, the Albany City Commission voted 5-2 to hire Jacobs during Wednesday’s commission meeting. Jacobs has been serving as a consultant with the Georgia Municipal Association, which is the position he accepted when he left Douglas in 2018. Jacobs became the Douglas city manager in June of 2007. His last day with the City of Douglas was June 15, 2018. Albany had considered Jacobs for its city manager position in 2015. In April of that year, the City of Albany announced five finalists…
Wednesday afternoon, officials with the Coffee County School System released a statement regarding an incident that occurred Tuesday at Westside Elementary School. On Tuesday, students found a loaded pistol magazine in one of the boys’ restrooms on campus. Officers from the school system’s police department searched the school and did not find a weapon. The Coffee Lady Trojans improved to 4-1 Tuesday afternoon with a 9-4 defeat of the Veterans High Warhawks at Faircloth Field in Douglas. The win also gave Coffee a 1-0 mark in region play. The Warhawks never gave the Lady Trojans any problems. Coffee scored two in the first, five in the second, and two in the fourth. On August 10, 2024, several officers from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office responded to Evans Laundry just before 7 p.m. Their reason for responding? A man was at the laundromat taking off his clothes. According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, when the officers arrived, they found David Bennett, 55, who had his shirt off and his shorts down.
