Letrelle Spires, 81, who was reported missing on Wednesday, September 20, was found Thursday not far from her home. She was discovered deceased not far from her vehicle, a grey BMW SUV. The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office released a missing person’s alert regarding Mrs. Spires around 7:30 p.m. that Wednesday. According to the sheriff’s office announcement, she had not been seen since Sunday, September 17. If you have information regarding this incident, please contact 911.

Friday morning, South Georgia State College’s Dylan Dixon of Alma won the Fort Valley State University Cross Country Opener and Alex Uribe of Hazlehurst finished second overall in the women’s race. Barney Fife has been avenged. Two weeks ago, a person or persons vandalized the mural of Barney Fife that adorns the side of an unoccupied house on Highway 441 in Broxton. The Broxton Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the incident. According to officers, 18-year-old Kayson Smalley has been arrested and charged with second degree criminal damage to property for allegedly vandalizing the mural. Once again, the top performers in last week’s game between the Coffee Trojans and the Bolles Bulldogs were senior running back Fred Brown and junior linebacker Jyarius Carter. Coffee won 17-9 in the Border Classic in Brunswick. Brown led the team in rushing with 109 yards on 24 carries. However, for the first time all season, Brown did not find the end zone. In May, two employees of Burger King, both of whom were teenagers, were charged in connection with debit card theft. The charges against one of the teens, Zyikieus Tashun Riles, 17, have since been dismissed. The other defendant, a 16-year-old juvenile, entered an admissions to the charges in July and his case was adjudicated then. Former Trojan Jackson Banks announced his presence to the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference this weekend when he made his debut for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs. Banks, a freshman who graduated in the CHS Class of 2023, continued his football career at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, Miss., this fall. Rusty Spell, 56, of Broxton, will serve five years in prison as a part of a 20-year sentence he received last month for allegedly stealing cargo trailers and diesel fuel in separate incidents in Coffee County. He still faces charges in Monroe County for allegedly stealing three Department of Natural Resources Polaris Rangers and trailers from Interceptor Public Safety in Forsyth.
