Thursday afternoon, a federal judge dismissed City Commissioner Olivia Pearson’s case against former Coffee County Elections Supervisor Misty Hampton and Coffee County that Pearson had filed as a result of an incident that took place at the elections office during the 2020 election. The incident happened on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. According to witnesses who were at the elections office at the time, Commissioner Pearson was in the office assisting a voter. At 7:30 p.m., former Trojan Maurice Turner and the Louisville Cardinals will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on ESPN. Hurricane Idalia carved a path of destruction as she moved through Coffee County, leaving roadways blocked, trees down, and tens of thousands of citizens without power. The rain, while significant, did not cause any major problems locally. On Saturday, August 5, officers responded to East Leon Street regarding a call about a possible assault. According to the report by the City of Douglas Police Department, upon arriving, the officers spoke with two individuals after they were finished being treated by EMS. Both individuals claimed that Trent Canady, 33, and Princess Collins, 29, had allegedly assaulted them. On Tuesday, August 8, around 3:33 am, an officer was riding down Peterson Avenue when he saw a vehicle make a wrong turn. After turning, an incident report from the Douglas Police Department states that 44-year-old George Robertson failed to maintain lane and was pulled over in the Aaron’s Furniture parking lot. According to the report, the officer noticed that Robertson was very fidgety and moving around quite a bit during their interaction. The Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County has a goal for 2023: Sell 5,000 t-shirts. Since its inception in 2011, the group’s t-shirts have been a tremendous marketing and fund-raising project. One of the CCAGCC’s biggest advocates was the late David Lindsey. He believed in the organization and donated both his time and resources to further its cause. His goal was always to sell 5,000 t-shirts. In the city elections, those who have qualified, in addition to Mayor Paulk, are as follows: Commissioner Kentaiwon Durham (Ward 2), Gregory Batts (Ward 3), and Commissioner Steve Bailey (Ward 6). The 19 defendants named last week in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s indictment regarding alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 president election are beginning to negotiate bond deals as they prepare to turn themselves in. The defendants have until Friday to do so; former President Donald Trump, one of the 19 indicted, has said he will turn himself in Thursday.
