Over the last few weeks, local law enforcement officers have been involved in several chases, some reaching dangerous speeds. On June 25, officers from the Douglas Police Department found themselves in another chase, although this one was at much more manageable speeds. A home on Sugarbrook Road in Broxton was the scene of a crazy incident on the morning of June 16. As a result, Jekevious Ronard Gaskin, 32, of Douglas, was arrested on aggravated assault and theft by taking charges. According to the incident report, Gaskin went to the home on Sugarbrook Road to see the female victim, his ex-girlfriend, who said she worked for the owner of the house. The suspect, identified as Jamarcus Renardo McConnal, hit the victim in the head with a shower curtain rod, held a knife to her person, and threatened to slash the tires of her car, according to the victim. Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m., the Coffee County Board of Elections and Registration will discuss bringing in independent counsel to investigate the alleged election security breaches that took place in January of 2021 at the elections office. The board will also be introduced to its new attorney, which the county has retained since the last elections board meeting two weeks ago. Since the last meeting, the elections office has moved; the building on Ashley Street is slated for demolition as a part of the upcoming courthouse annex construction project.
