Friday morning, officers from the Douglas Police Department, Coffee County EMA/Fire Department, and other agencies searched the Seventeen Mile River and the surrounding woods at the West Green Highway bridge for Maria Diaz, who has been missing since February. During the course of the investigation, officers identified several areas if interest that Diaz was close to near the time of her disappearance. Investigators found nothing of interest on Friday. Joshua Johnson, 32, is in jail after allegedly leading a Douglas police officer on a chase through town on Friday, April 14, 2023. After Johnson, who was allegedly impaired at the time, finally stopped, the officer found illegal drugs in the vehicle. According to a DPD incident report, an officer saw a black Chevrolet Impala turn on West Baker Highway off South College Avenue.
