Friday morning, officers from the Douglas Police Department, Coffee County EMA/Fire Department, and other agencies searched the Seventeen Mile River and the surrounding woods at the West Green Highway bridge for Maria Diaz, who has been missing since February. During the course of the investigation, officers identified several areas if interest that Diaz was close to near the time of her disappearance. Investigators found nothing of interest on Friday. Joshua Johnson, 32, is in jail after allegedly leading a Douglas police officer on a chase through town on Friday, April 14, 2023. After Johnson, who was allegedly impaired at the time, finally stopped, the officer found illegal drugs in the vehicle. According to a DPD incident report, an officer saw a black Chevrolet Impala turn on West Baker Highway off South College Avenue. Darren Andrew-Lee Watson, 22, is in jail on aggravated assault charges after he allegedly walked into a home where his ex-girlfriend, her boyfriend, and another individual were and pointed a gun at all three. Jesse James McCabe, 35, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance (Oxycodone), and possession of marijuana after an officer with the Department of Community Supervision discovered suspected illegal drugs in McCabe’s house on Wilmar Avenue. According to an incident report, after the officer found the drugs, he contacted a detective with the Coffee County Drug Unit, who arrested McCabe and took him to jail. A detective from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office arrested and jailed a Douglas man on drug possession charges following a traffic stop on Ramblewood Road. According to an incident report, a detective was patrolling the area on April 14 when he saw a red Ford F-150 driving erratically at a high rate of speed.
