A routine registration check led to the capture of a wanted fugitive from Utah. On the morning of June 4, a Douglas police officer ran a registration check on a vehicle. Information on the vehicle’s owner, Sunshine Eagle, 23, of Wray, showed an active warrant in Utah County, Utah. The vehicle pulled into the Walmart parking lot, where the officer made a traffic stop. Eagle was driving the vehicle. Officers contacted authorities in Utah County and they stated they wanted to place a hold on her. Eagle was placed under arrest and was transported…
Dr. Jeffery Silveira, a beloved local physician, passed away peacefully last night with his family by his side. Last month, Dr. Silveira suffered a major heart attack. While he survived the initial incident and fought a courageous battle to regain his health, he never fully recovered and had been hospitalized since. Halique Laron Jordan, Jr., 18, of Ocilla is being held in the Coffee County Jail on murder charges stemming from the fatal shooting of Robert Wilcox, 26, of Ocilla. Last Wednesday, June 7, 2023, officers from the Ocilla Police Department responded to a gunshot victim call. According to a post on the Ocilla Police Department’s Facebook page, when officers arrived at the 400 block of North Roosevelt Street, they found the victim, Wilcox, in the yard unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The following day, Jordan was arrested in Cordele along with five others.…

On June 8 just before 11 a.m., officers from the sheriff’s department responded to a domestic dispute call on Cottonwood Road in Douglas. According to the report, Samuel Wayne Harper, 21, damaged the home at 138 Cottonwood Road. He was allegedly mad that his girlfriend’s dog had used the bathroom in the floor. Destiny Rios, 23, of Milledgeville, who had been under investigation by the Coffee County Drug Unit, consented to a search of her vehicle during the June 5 traffic stop. Rios admitted to officials that methamphetamine was in the vehicle but claimed it did not belong to her.
