The South Georgia State College cross country Hawks wrapped their season with five top-10 finishes and one All-Conference honor over their last two meets. Sophomore Humberto Rivas, a Coffee High graduate, turned in a 29:53 8K effort at the GCAA Region 17 Conference Championships Wednesday afternoon in Milledgeville, good for fifth place overall and a spot on the All-Conference team. Rivas was also the only runner in the top five of either the men’s or women’s races who was not an Oxford Emory runner. The SGSC cross country program fielded a men’s team last year for the first…

The FBI recently released a poster reminding individuals that the investigation is still underway and of a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Brown’s death. The Lady Trojans wrapped up the regular season last week with a 9-1 win on the road at Bradwell Institute. Freshman Emme Cole got her first varsity win going 3 innings and only allowed 1 hit with 5 strikeouts. Another freshman, Bryle Gamage, picked up a save with an effective outing as well. Senior Imani Paulk hit a line-drive 3-run homer to set the tone for Coffee while Hannah Capps, Hanna Hutchison, and Morgan Hodges all added 2 hits to each to lead the offense. Capps and Hutchison both had a pair of doubles while Kaci Thacker, Erin…
The Coffee Trojans junior varsity squad found themselves in an unenviable position Thursday afternoon at Jardine Stadium. The Trojans forced six Ware County Gators (JV) turnovers but could muster only one touchdown. When the final seconds ticked off the clock, the Gators celebrated a 12-7 win over their rivals while the Trojans looked stunned at the outcome. Ware received the opening kick and, after a good return, scored on the first play from scrimmage. The point-after was no good, giving the Gators an early 6-0 lead. The Coffee defense stiffened after that and kept Ware out of the…
Sgt. Miguel Contreras, a dedicated employee of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office for almost ten years, succumbed to his fight against cancer this morning at his home. The CCSO released the following statement: “It is with the deepest sadness that the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of our friend and colleague, Sgt. Miguel Contreras. Anybody fortunate enough to know Miguel will tell you that he was a hero. Miguel was a hero not just because of any singular act of bravery or self-sacrifice, although there were many, but rather because of his consistent, sustained,…

The Tift County Blue Devils (JV) came to Jardine Stadium looking for a little revenge against the Coffee Trojans (JV). They didn’t get it. The Trojans won 15-0 in what was a low-scoring, hard-hitting contest that was very different from the two teams’ varsity match up from earlier in the year. Coffee won that game 55-7. Coffee wanted to keep that high scoring trend against the Blue Devils alive. Tift, however, wanted to stop the Trojans’ offense and go back home with a win. Early on, it didn’t look like either team was interested…

When the Miami Dolphins opened up their checkbook to sign Tyreek Hill to a four-year, $120 million contract ($72.2 million guaranteed) in the offseason, they expected big things. So far, they’re getting exactly what they wanted. In two games with the Dolphins, Hill is leading the NFL with 19 catches for 284 yards and two touchdowns. Miami is 2-0 with wins over the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens. Both of his touchdowns came against Baltimore, the second of which tied the game after the Dolphins had trailed by as many as 21 at one…
