History was made at the University of West Georgia’s summer graduation ceremony on July 25. The Tanner Health System School of Nursing saw its first graduate earning a Doctor of Education in nursing education walk across the stage: South Georgia State College’s own Associate Professor of Nursing Jaime Carter. The Ed.D. in nursing education online program admitted its first cohort of students in the fall of 2012. Ricky Watts, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Genesis Court Care Rehab in Hazlehurst, GA. He leaves to cherish his memory: His loving wife of forty years, Laura Mae Watts; Two sons Cedric (Enjol) Watts and Ricardo (Wilidah) Watts; One sister, Patricia (Harry) Ates; other relatives and friends. The Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation Department recently attended the annual GRPA District II Award banquet. Cindy Johnson, City of Douglas Ceramic Coordinator, was nominated and selected by her fellow recreation professionals to receive the inaugural “Roger Johnson Award” in Recreation Administration. Cindy’s career with the Parks & Recreation Department began in 1979 when she was hired as a part time employee. In 1980, she was promoted to a full time position as the Public Relations Officer for the department. In 1983, Cindy became the ceramics instructor and presently holds this position.
