The City of Douglas Finance Department has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. Rachel Morgan Pedigo was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday, Aug. 11 at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. A free workshop titled “Okefenokee Swamp and South Georgia River Fishing” will be offered by Georgia DNR Fisheries Biologist Bert Deener. The workshop will be held Friday, Aug. 21, at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m.in the Dogwood Room at the Central Square Complex. Mrs. Barbara Kirkland Anderson, age 76, of Douglas passed away suddenly Monday morning, August 10, 2015, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.
