Members of Coffee High FCCLA attended the FCCLA State Leadership Conference and STAR Events Competition in Athens, Georgia, on March 23-25, 2023. While attending the Georgia FCCLA State Leadership Conference, students had the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life planning, goal setting, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal communication necessary in the workforce. The theme was “Summit of Success”, showing students as leaders, competitors, and members of FCCLA. Every five years, local government entities update the Comprehensive Plan – Short Term Work Plan (STWP). Currently, city and county officials are updating the STWP for the cities of Ambrose, Broxton, Douglas, and Nicholls and would like to receive citizen input. The GBI arrested and charged Erik Otoniel Ramos Perez, age 24, of Pearson, with rape, aggravated child molestation, kidnapping, home invasion in the 1st degree, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, two counts of false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, and obstructing persons making emergency telephone calls stemming from an incident involving two children that occurred on Saturday, April 29, 2023. The Homerville Police Department requested the GBI investigate the incident after a 911 call was received regarding a child having been sexually assaulted at a home in the 400 block of Old Fargo Highway in Homerville. The Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council (DMYC) recognized Jeremiah Bazell as youth council spotlight, Rahkeem Paulk as Outstanding Community Leader, and heard from City Finance Director Tommy Harrell and Dr. Saundrett Gibbs at the April youth council meeting.
