Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) recently announced the first group of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Rural Pediatric Scholarship Program recipients for the 2023 academic year. One recipient, Leeia Fields, is from Douglasl MUSM selected scholars based on their commitment to become pediatricians, strong ties to rural Georgia, character, leadership qualities, community involvement, and their commitment to serving in rural, underserved Georgia after their scholarship obligations are met. The Trashin’ Fashion Show is designed to be a cross-curricular project-based learning activity that involves the whole community. The project allows high school students to use what they have learned in Art, Math, Language Arts, and Environmental Science to create a wearable piece of art from discarded materials. By involving FBIT community partners and public entries, the project opens the discussion of the environmental impact of fashion and the role of all individuals in being more creative in the reuse of materials.
