Wiregrass Georgia Technical College (WGTC) President DeAnnia Clements announced the naming of the nursing wing on the Coffee Campus as the Coffee Regional Medical Center (CRMC) Nursing Wing at a dedication ceremony. The naming of the wing was made possible thanks to a $300,000 donation to the college payable over the next four years to the Wiregrass Tech Foundation North by CRMC. The GBI has arrested and charged Kiel Smith, age 25, of Lumber City, and Brad Smith, age 18, of Lumber City, with Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder. Kaniya Maxwell Fletcher, age 24 of Hazlehurst, was also arrested for Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and Felony Murder. These crimes are related to the killing of Leceddrick Mitchell. On Monday, January 1, 2024, the Hazlehurst Police Department asked the GBI to conduct a death investigation. The investigation shows that Fletcher had an argument with Mitchell earlier on December 31, 2023, while at a party on Danny Street in Hazlehurst.
