Contractors working with CSX railroad have released an update for crossings in Douglas. Several teams have been working on railroad maintenance work continues. Due to the magnitude of the job, closures have changed several times. No estimated time of completion for each crossing has been given. Crossings that are closed as of March 3, 2023, include Willy Anderson Rd., Manilla Ave., College Ave., Daughtry Ave., Shirley Ave., Barrington Rd., and Salem Church Rd. The Coffee Trojans track team made the short drive to Pierce County for the second meet of the season. Several Trojans had strong performances, which included first place finishes. Ja’Maria Harvey won the 400 meter race with a time of 1:02.76. Allison Rivas placed first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:59.23. In a concerted effort to cooperate with the request of the Douglas-Coffee County Animal Shelter, the City of Douglas Animal Control may no longer accept owner-surrendered dogs and cats. If an owner wishes to surrender a dog or cat, the owner must contact the Animal Shelter at (912) 384-8031 to schedule an appointment on a Monday or Wednesday. Upon surrendering the dog/cat, the owner must pay a $50 fee for the care of the animal to the Douglas-Coffee County Animal Shelter. Coffee High senior Kate Merritt continued her front-of-the-pack performances at the Trojans’ first track meet of the season in Albany.
