The Martin Centre Preservation Company, Inc. has announced receiving a grant from the Community Foundation of Central Georgia for the rehab of the interior of the theatre just in time for the beginning of the 2022-2023 season. Such an essential achievement is yet another quality collaboration with a known proponent for improving Georgia communities. Mr. Paul Jewell, 94, of Douglas, Georgia died Monday at Harborview Satilla after an extended illness. He was born in Coffee County to the late Jack Jackson Jewell and Daisy Joyner Jewell. Mr. Jewell had made Waycross his home for the majority of his life. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean War. He cut hair during his time in the Army, and that transitioned into a career, where he worked as a barber in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina. The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA) is offering $70,000 in scholarships to Georgia students pursuing a degree in agriculture, veterinary medicine, family and consumer sciences or a related field. The GFA will award scholarships in the following four categories. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College held the Fall 2022 Commencement Exercises Thursday, December 15. The ceremony honored the Fall Semester graduates. Fall Semester had 534 students who were awarded their associate degree, diploma, or technical certificate of credit, and 45 students who were High School Equivalency graduates. Among those graduating, the college awarded 73 associate degrees, 156 diplomas, and 566 technical certificates. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation awarded multiple scholarships to help students complete their education and develop workforce skills. Three students from the Coffee Campus were among the 16 Wiregrass students awarded scholarships made possible because of generous college supporters. The scholarships will help pay for tuition, fees, books, and/or supplies needed for their programs.
