Coffee County Farm Bureau (CCFB) was recognized for its outstanding member programs and agricultural advocacy activities at the 85th Annual Georgia Farm Bureau (GFB) Convention held Dec. 4-6 on Jekyll Island. Derek Pridgen is the CCFB president. Carla Palmer is the CCFB office manager. CCFB received the GFB Rewarding Excellence in Ag Program (REAP) Harvester Award in the organization’s large membership division. An Atkinson County man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison after admitting to charges involving methamphetamine trafficking and illegal gun possession. Juan Eloy Quintanilla, 29, of Willacoochee, Ga., was sentenced to 135 months in prison after pleading guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute Five or More Grams of Methamphetamine, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, said David H. Estes, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. U.S. District Court Judge Lisa Godbey Wood also ordered Quintanilla to serve five years of supervised release upon completion of his prison…

Jewell Loretta Ashurst Crawford, 78 of Hoboken, died December 15, 2022 at Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta, Georgia after an extended illness. Mrs. Crawford was born in Douglas, Georgia to the late Percy N. Ashurst and Jewell Holton Ashurst and made Hoboken her home for most of her life. She was an exceptional homemaker and a member of Hoboken Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James Robert “Bobby” Crawford, a granddaughter, Kara Baker; and a great grandson, Mason West. The 2022 recipients are Will Smith, Ramsey Merritt, Joshua Snyder, El Williams, and Richard Terry.
