Ms. Tiffany Lynn Bennett, age 31 of Axson, Ga., passed away, Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Southeast Georgia Health Systems in Brunswick, Ga., following a long battle with cancer. Mr. Elmer William Alexander, 89 of Douglas, GA, passed away May 9, 2022 at his home with his loved ones by his side. He was born May 26, 1932 to the late Grover Cleveland Alexander and the late Christine Chisholm Alexander. Mr. Alexander served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant from 1947 – 1967. After he retired from the U.S. Navy he volunteered with many different organization dedicated in helping others. Most know him as a dedicated Shriner. In accordance with the State of Georgia’s Enterprise Zone Employment Act of 1997, the City of Douglas has established five Enterprise Zones in the city to encourage revitalization and investment in the areas. The City of Douglas Fire Department will begin testing fire hydrants on Monday, May 16, 2022, through Wednesday, May 18, 2022. Hydrant testing will start at 8:30 p.m. each night, when there is minimum traffic, and continue until 4:00 a.m. each morning. The area of Douglas that will be tested is everything South of Ward Street. During hydrant testing, the water may become rusty or cloudy and customers should allow faucets to run until the water is clear.
