Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Sellers Soles, age 72 of Hahira, GA, formerly of Coffee County, passed away late Wednesday evening, March 9, 2022 at her residence in Hahira, GA following a short illness. Mrs. Soles was born June 22, 1949 to the late Joseph Lewis Sellers and the late Leila Gordon Sellers. Mrs. Soles was born in Dooly County, Ga. but had lived most of her life in Coffee County. The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) has announced additional postseason honors for four members of South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team. Malik Allen of Hazlehurst, Ga., Jesse Harbin of Flowery Branch, Ga., and Zae Wiggins of Monticello, Fla., were each named to the GCAA’s All-Academic Team. GCAA student athletes must attend college full-time for at least three semesters and maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average to qualify for the recognition. The Coffee County Drug Unit (CCDU) announces the following, recent drug-related arrests: Feb. 23 – The CCDU conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Stephanie Rouis for failing to dim headlights. A passenger in the vehicle, Joshua Heath, was wanted on an active warrant through the Douglas Police Dept. A search of the vehicle was conducted, and suspected heroin and suspected methamphetamine were located. Both individuals were arrested, and Rouis was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine. Heath was charged with possession of methamphetamine. Jerome Arnold, Jr., of Douglas, has been arrested and charged with felony murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, related to the shooting death of Radderian “Rae Rae” D. Barnes, according to a statement posted on the Douglas Police Department’s Facebook page. On January 13, 2022 Douglas Police were dispatched to a shooting on Juanita St. in Douglas. The agreement is a cooperative relationship to better serve students and to facilitate a seamless transfer process from Wiregrass to DeVry.
