On Friday, January 28, 2022, the Douglas-Coffee County community celebrated the groundbreaking for the Medical Institute of South Georgia, located at 810 College Avenue North in Douglas. The Medical Institute of South Georgia is founded by Dr. Tracy McClelland and her husband Leroy McClelland. Dr. McClelland currently owns and operates Ycarte’ Health Career Center, a private post-secondary training facility designed to educate the community and provide fast, quality training in health care since 2006. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation awarded multiple scholarships to help students complete their education and develop workforce skills. Six students from the Coffee Campus were among the 14 Wiregrass students awarded scholarships, which were made possible because of generous college supporters. The scholarships will help pay for tuition, fees, books, and/or supplies needed for their programs. The scholarships were merit-based and applicants had to complete an application and provide letters of support. The South Georgia State College Hawks won their third consecutive conference game Saturday afternoon, defeating the Southern Crescent Tech Tigers 82-53. Jayce Moore led the Hawks (17-5, 6-2) with 23 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and four steals. AJ Spencer finished with 15 points, six assists, and five steals. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College announces the Spring Guardian Bank Entrepreneurship Academy starting in February, free for current Wiregrass students and alumni. The UGA Small Business Development Center at Valdosta State University is partnering with Guardian Bank and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College to deliver six courses with 12 hours of total class time.
