Payton Merritt, a South Georgia State College (SGSC) junior from Waycross, Georgia, was honored with the 2022 Academic Recognition Day Award by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. Merritt, a Phi Theta Kappa honor student, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education. She received her Associate of Science in Education from SGSC in May, 2021. George David Green, 76, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away at Coffee Regional Medical Central on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 surrounded by family. David spent his life devoted to his family and in community service. He was born September 10, 1945 in Brunswick, GA and graduated from Duncan U. Fletcher High School in 1965.
