Mr. Rufus Jerome “R.J.” Howell, age 82, who entered into rest on Friday, February 11, 2022 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Howell was born in Haines City, Florida the son of the late Rufus Brown Howell and Deloris Pearce Howell. Mr. Howell was a graduate of South Georgia College where he played football for Coach Bobby Bowden, also a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BS degree in Agriculture. The University System of Georgia (USG) Foundation has awarded the Foundations of South Georgia State College (SGSC) with a Capacity Building Grant in the amount of $75,000 over the next three years. The funding will assist the SGSC Foundation and the James M. On Friday, February 11, Coffee High School was proud to have guest speaker Key’Shun Holmes, a 2017 CHS graduate and creator/owner of the Rich Royal Clothing brand. Several classes from Economics, Personal Financial Literacy, Employability and the Health and Human services pathway are learning about entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship and attended the event. Every love story has a beginning, and Kristen and Chase Hinson’s began on the campus of South Georgia State College. They can’t remember exactly when they initially met at SGSC. With Kristen playing on the women’s soccer team and Chase being a member of the Hawks baseball team, they were involved in many of the same activities.
