The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association has selected South Georgia State College’s Jayce Moore as the Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Moore, a 6’3″ sophomore from Douglas Ga., averaged 16 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.6 steals, 1.3 blocks, and four assists in last week’s games against North Florida Prep, South Georgia Tech, and Gordon State. For the season, Moore is averaging 12.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game. His rebounds per game average is second in the GCAA. A second half scoring run by South Georgia State College broke open a close game against the Gordon State Highlanders and lifted the Hawks (12-4, 1-1) to a 70-51 win Saturday afternoon. In 2020, the City of Douglas was designated as a RURAL Zone by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Downtown businesses that are located within the RURAL Zone may qualify for tax credits relating to property purchase, rehabilitation costs, and job creation. The Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation Department has various facilities available for rental to the public. Facility fees have gone unchanged for numerous years and evaluation of the facility fee structure has resulted in an increase of rental for some buildings, ballfields, and parks. “We have not increased rental fees in several years even though operating costs and maintenance costs have increased,” says Stevie Young, Parks and Recreation Director. “This increase is needed to keep the buildings in good condition for customers.” Monies collected in rental fees are contributed to the general fund with the City of Douglas…
