The GBI has arrested and charged Freddie Lee Granger Jr., age 68, of Ware County, with one count of Rape, one count of Aggravated Assault, one count of Malice Murder, and two counts of Felony Murder in connection with the 1984 rape and murder of 22-year-old Sandra Kaye Davis. On September 1, 1984, the Waycross Police Department discovered Davis’s body beside a home on Kollock Street in Waycross. She had been strangled. After being notified by Atkinson County deputies, officers from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Jerome Taft, a registered sex offender, for allegedly failing to comply with Georgia’s sex offender registry requirements. Agents from the Coffee County Sex Offender Unit determined Taft moved from his registered Douglas address to a residence in Atkinson County on March 22, 2026, without providing the required 72-hour prior notification to law enforcement. On March 24, 2026, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office turned up the spin cycle on a pair of suspected shoplifters following a calculated retail theft at a Dollar General on Highway 158 East.
