Instructors at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College have nominated thirty-seven of their students for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) competition, according to Molly Summer, coordinator for the college’s GOAL program. These nominations come from the college’s four campuses: Ben Hill-Irwin, Coffee, Cook, and Valdosta. The City of Douglas is seeking qualified construction contractors to participate in their Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) neighborhood revitalization program. The CHIP neighborhood revitalization program provides funds for the rehabilitation of homes of low/moderate income individuals within a specific target area who meet the qualifications. Every year, the Satilla Riverkeeper hosts a river-wide cleanup to pick up trash alongside the Satilla River. This year the Riverkeeper mobilized 42 volunteers to pick up 2,648 pounds of trash from the Satilla River. The cleanup efforts stretched all throughout the Satilla River watershed covering 9 sites. “People are more likely to litter in at a site that is already full of trash, but now that these sites are clean, we hope that people will think twice before littering” said Chris Bertrand, Satilla Riverkeeper.
