Mrs. Brenda Gail Hayes Anderson, age 57 of Douglas, GA passed away early Friday morning, October 29, 2021 at her residence following a short illness. Mrs. Anderson was born November 7, 1963 to the late James Albert Hayes and the late Cleo Taylor Hayes. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: James LaBon Hayes and a son, William Michael Anderson. Mrs. Anderson, a native of Bartow, FL, had retired from the Coffee County Board of Education, where she had taught Pre-K for 21 years. On Monday, October 18, 2021, the Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council recognized October as Pink Month in Douglas and Coffee County at its monthly meeting. The meeting also highlighted youth in the community and the Future Business Leaders of America program. A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new Unison Mental Health Clinic for Adults on West College Park Drive in Douglas took place on the morning of November 3. This new clinic is made possible by a Community Development Block Grant to the City of Douglas with funding support from Coffee Regional Medical Center and Unison Behavioral Health. The South Georgia State College Hawks trailed 36-29 at the half Wednesday night against Thomas University Reserve (TUR). It didn’t take long for the Hawks to erase that seven-point deficit in the second half and take flight to a season opening win.
