Mr. James Carlton O’Neal, Sr. age 66 of Douglas, passed away early Saturday morning, September 4, 2021 at Coffee Regional Medical Center following a short illness. Mr. O’Neal was born June 27, 1955 to the late James Junior O’Neal and the late Gladys Bryant O’Neal. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers: James Raulerson, David Prescott, Daniel O’Neal, Johnny O’Neal and Billy O’Neal. Mr. O’Neal, was born in Bacon County, GA. The Coffee Lady Trojans dropped a low-scoring affair at home against visiting Jeff Davis last Monday night 4-2. “Our pitchers once again delivered by not allowing an earned run courtesy of 5 errors. Both Robinsons pitched great, we just didn’t play well defensively,” stated head coach Stan Hughes. Erin Robinson scattered 5 hits through 5 innings and Emily Robinson threw 2 hitless innings. Coffee Middle School FFA members Ella Baker, Milee Beasley, and Lola Vincent recently attended the statewide FFA Floral Design Career Development Event training held at Camp John Hope. This training was developed specifically for FFA members and FFA Advisors to strengthen their floral design skills as well as build confidence in their own creative ability. The training was led and sponsored by FTID Florists Randy Wooten and Jackie Johns along with generous donations from FTD. FFA Advisors/Agriculture Teachers that were in attendance included Mr. Jamey Stodghill. On Friday night, Aug. 27, during the halftime festivities at Jardine Stadium, Nena Stone, second grade teacher from Westside Elementary, was named the new 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year. A veteran educator with over 25 years of experience, Mrs. Stone began her teaching career at Satilla Elementary. She taught on the campus of Indian Creek Elementary for 17 years and has been at Westside Elementary since 2016. A graduate of Valdosta State University, Mrs. Stone earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education in Early Childhood Education.
Richard Darrin Davis, 56, has been charged with arson in connection with a mobile home fire that took place earlier this month. On August 21, a member of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King’s Fire Investigations Unit was requested by the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office to assist in a fire investigation on Warren Carter Road in Douglas. The fire occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. and caused moderate damage to the 20-year-old mobile home. Mary was preceded in death by her mother; Minnie Patrick Maxwell Solomon, father John Solomon and six sibilings; Mildred (Levi) Williams, John Solomon, Rosa (Calvin) Davis, Annie (John) Ash, Charlie Scott.
