Christopher M. Wooten, age 49, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021 at Jefferson County Hospital. Mr. Wooten was born on March 17, 1972 the son of the late J.C. Wooten and Linda Jernigan. Mr. Wooten worked as a planner with Southwire and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include 2 sisters, Darlene Higdon (Stuart) of Fort Rock, AL and Kylene Hartline (John) of Fort Payne, AL; brother, James Wooten (Jamie) of Batavia, Ohio; several nephews and cousins. Memorialization is by cremation. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

According to Telfair County Sheriff Sim Davidson, on Friday, June 25, Telfair County deputies, along with the assistance of the Oconee Drug Task Force, Georgia State Patrol, Lumber City Police Department, and Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a Main Street address which ended in the arrest of Darrell Conaway. The seized drugs included approximately 4.3 ounces of crack cocaine, 7 grams of powder cocaine, 21 grams of methamphetamine, 23 grams of marijuana, and 6 oxycodone pills. Officers charged Conaway with trafficking crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, and oxycodone.…

Several citizens have contacted the City of Douglas expressing concerns for the renovations that will soon be taking place at Davis Wade Park. Davis Wade Park has six tennis courts that will not be demolished and will remain for public use while the Miracle Field and Swimming Pool construction is taking place. Parking for the tennis courts will be in the city parking lot on Letitia Avenue and W. The City of Douglas Fire Department would like to encourage citizens to practice safety with fireworks and would like to make the public aware of a few facts about the Fireworks law. The State of Georgia allows for consumer fireworks to be sold statewide. According to 2018 Georgia legislation, fireworks can be used during the hours of 10am and 9:00pm. On Monday, June 14, and on Thursday, June 17, 4-H members traveled to Valdosta to the Wild Adventures Theme Park. They were able to enjoy rides, see exotic animals, and have fun in the water park. With the 2021-2022 school year beginning Monday, August 9, the Coffee County School System has openings within various elementary schools for students to participate in their Pre-K Program. Georgia’s Pre-K Program is open to all eligible four-year-old children in Georgia. The program provides a safe environment for children to learn, laugh and grow and it is a wonderful prerequisite to kindergarten.
