Maggie Lou Crosby, age 84, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Saturday, March 15th, 2025 in San Mateo, Florida. She was born on May 29th, 1940, the daughter of Mr. J. W. and Mrs. Iris Peterson Sikes. Maggie was survived by two daughters, Carrol Crosby, and her spouse, Jana Fitzgerald, of San Mateo, Florida and Susan Crosby Preston, and her spouse, Bill Preston, of Douglas, Georgia. Coffee High School traveled to Albany, Georgia to travel to participate in the L.C. Smith & Winfred Benson Relays. The Lady Trojans scored 47 points and Trojans scored 43 points. Both teams finished 6th overall out of 17 schools. Kaloni Styles placed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.64 seconds. A mother and her boyfriend who are charged in connection with the death of a four-year-old girl in Lyons made their first court appearance Monday after being arrested over the weekend. According to a press release issued by Toombs County Sheriff Jordan Kight, Seth Hunter Brown, 26, and Taylor Marie Hughes, 29, appeared before Superior Court Judge Robert Reeves in connection to the death of Hughes’s daughter, Reese Hughes. At the request of the Hazlehurst Police Department, GBI agents are investigating the death of Gary Ryals, age 19, of Hazlehurst, GA. On Monday, March 10, 2025, the Hazlehurst Police Department responded to the Circle K at 100 E. Jarman Street in Hazlehurst to reports of a shooting. Officers arrived and found Ryals with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. This investigation is active and ongoing. A search warrant served by Coffee County deputies on Friday morning resulted in the arrest of a 59-year-old Broxton man. Over several weeks, the Coffee County Sheriff’s office received numerous tips from the community about illegal drug distribution. This information resulted in a search warrant being carried out on March 14, 2025. Detectives from the Coffee County Drug Unit executed the warrant near Joe Ellis Road in the Giffordville area.
