Satilla Riverkeeper wrapped up the 2021 Satilla River Fishing Tournament on Sunday, April 25. The tournament ran from April 17 -25. Participants competed by taking photos of their catch and submitting through an app called FishDonkey. Participants were allowed to fish anywhere in the Satilla River or any of its tributaries. Each participant received a measuring bump board, generously donated by Waycross Convention & Visitors Bureau. To be eligible for the cash prizes all fish had to be measured on this official bump board. Youth under 16 were allowed to participate with a registered adult. The Satilla River…

The Coffee High Trojan Track Team hosted Irwin County and Wayne County on Senior Night, which took place on April 20. The Lady Trojans scored 81 points to the Wayne County Lady Jackets’ 50 points. The Trojans scored 72 points to edge out the Wayne County Jackets’ 59 points and Irwin County Indians’ 27 points. The last man standing from Operation: Sandy Bottom has been arrested in Jacksonville, Fla. On April 20, 2021, Leo Pender, who had been on the run for 99 days, was arrested by the Jacksonville Narcotics, Violent Crimes, Vice, and Gang Investigations Unit during a traffic stop near I-95. During the stop, Pender identified himself as Anthony White; however, officers quickly discovered that Mr. White was in fact Mr. Pender, a wanted fugitive from Bacon County. South Georgia State College’s bid to join the Elite Eight at the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament fell short Wednesday afternoon. The No. 5 seed South Plains College Texans pulled away late in the second half to defeat SGSC 91-80 and snapped the Hawks’ 11-game winning streak.
