Miss Linda Joyce Vickers, age 76 of Douglas passed away, Monday afternoon, May 24, 2021 at Memorial Health in Savannah following an extended illness. Miss Vickers was born June 28, 1944 to the late Herbert Vickers and the late Lucille Joyce Vickers. Linda, a native of Coffee County, was a homemaker. She was an active member of Harrell Grove Baptist Church and serving other churches in the area. She was loved by all that knew her. Johnny Harlan Johnson of Coffee County left his earthly home in the arms of his Lord and Savior on May 23, 2021 surrounded by his family. Born in Coffee County on December 8, 1952, he was the son of the late Johnny Homer Johnson and Ruby (Ricketson) Johnson. John was a small business owner of Johnson’s Auto and Tire repair for over 42 years. Running a 24 hour wrecker service he strived to be anywhere in the county within 20 minutes. A ribbon cutting and open house will be held on June 1 for O’Malley Musical Instruments at its new location 903 South Madison Avenue. The vaccine clinic operated by Coffee Regional Medical Center has relocated from Central Square Complex in downtown Douglas to the Coffee Regional Medical Center cafeteria located in the hospital at 1101 Ocilla Road, Douglas. Designated parking for those being vaccinated will be available adjacent to the handicap parking area on the east side of Coffee Regional Medical Center. No appointment is necessary and all individuals ages 12 and older are eligible to be vaccinated at this clinic. Kevin Tatum, County Extension Coordinator Junior/Senior District Project Achievement (DPA) for our Junior (7th & 8th grade) and Senior (9th-12th grade) 4-H members is coming up on May 31-June 1. We have a great group of 4-H’ers competing. They will be competing against 4-H members from the 39 counties in southeast Georgia. We will travel to Rock Eagle on Monday, May 31, and return on Tuesday, June 1. Twenty-five students completed portfolios this year and will be competing in the presentation portion of the contest. Two schools will have new principals for the 2021-2022 school year. Anastagia Carter will be the new principal at Indian Creek Elementary School while Van Allen is the new principal at Coffee High School. Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Michael Bartholomew Brown, 19, was arrested on charges of Burglary and First Degree Arson. The incident occurred around 5:12 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18th. The 1000-square-foot mobile home, located on Ashford Drive in McRae-Helena, was totally destroyed. “Mr. Brown was questioned by the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office regarding the incident,” said Commissioner King. “The suspect admitted to being inside the residence and igniting a fire.
