The Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council (DMYC) recognized outstanding youth and citizens in the community at its most recent. The youth council also heard city updates from Mayor Tony Paulk and COVID-19 updates from Dr. Lydia Tanner. For the month of March 2021, Addy Harris was the youth council member that was spotlighted. South Georgia State College kept its hold on the number two spot in the GCAA standings Thursday night with a 95-69 win over the Gordon State Highlanders. Jayce Moore led the Hawks (17-3, 11-3) with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists. Kevin Tatum, County Extension Coordinator On Saturday, March 20, Coffee County 4-H Shotgun Team members traveled to Macon to the Meadows Gun Club to compete in the Georgia 4-H Sporting Clay Match. 4-H members competing included Alex Dunn, Gavin Grantham, Cara Lott, Hudson Lott, Michael Roberts, and Weston Vickers, and coaches who attended the match included Emily Purvis and Jody Ridlehoover. The COVID-19 vaccine will be available to all Georgia residents aged 16 and above beginning this Thursday, March 25 as announced by Governor Brian Kemp Tuesday. This announcement comes after the state received additional doses this week and officials are confident that there are ample appointment times and supply now available for those eligible individuals. Two would-be thieves and another individual were arrested recently following two extremely botched criminal incidents. Coffee County detectives responded to an address off Ga. Hwy. 32 East on March 12 to investigate a possible burglary. When they arrived, authorities immediately observed a vehicle in the yard that had bogged down behind the residence. Further investigation revealed the vehicle contained several items that had been reported stolen from the home and an outbuilding on the property. Detectives learned the vehicle was registered to Michele Adams of Coffee County, who authorities also discovered had attempted to report the vehicle stolen…

Mrs. Ottie Lou Maine Smith, age 77 of Douglas, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021 at her home following an extended illness. A native of Atkinson County, Mrs. Smith was born September 25, 1943, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Q.B. and Ozelle Davis Maine. Rebecca Crosby McKinnon, age 77, of Douglas, GA passed away at home Monday, March 15, 2021 of an extended illness, while surrounded by her loved ones. Becky was born January 31, 1944 in Axson, GA to the late Lige and Cecelia Crosby. She attended Atkinson County High School and married her high school sweetheart, Bobby Eugene McKinnon.
