Greta Grantham, a kindergarten teacher at Indian Creek Elementary, has received the first-ever Coffee County Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers agriculture mini-grant. She will be using the mini-grant to enhance Indian Creek’s “Kinder-Garden.” “In today’s tech-crazed society, it is important that students are given the opportunity to learn about agriculture and where our food comes from” said Grantham. On March 17, 2021, the Bacon County Sheriff Office’s Narcotics Unit along with the Jesup-Wayne County Tactical Narcotics Team and the Alma-Bacon County Crime Suppression Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on E. 9th St. in the City of Alma. They were assisted by officers with the Bacon County Sheriff’s Office, Alma Police Department, Jesup Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia State Patrol. The search warrant stemmed from a multi-jurisdictional investigation in trafficking of narcotics by suspect Patrick Lee Newson of Alma. The South Georgia State College Hawks moved into a tie for second place in the GCAA Tuesday night with an 87-79 win over the Southern Crescent Tech Tigers on SGSC’s Douglas Campus. Coffee County authorities made multiple drug arrests during the last week, one of which yielded the discovery of over three pounds of methamphetamine and the seizure of over eleven pounds of cocaine. A Coffee County K-9 deputy conducted a traffic stop on March 12 on a vehicle driven by an individual identified as Marisela Nicole Mier. During the roadside investigation, Mier was found to be in possession of a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine. A traffic stop on March 6 resulted in the arrest of one man on methamphetamine and other charges who was also wanted for existing felony warrants. A Coffee County K-9 deputy initiated the stop on March 6 in the area of Magnolia Road and JoAnn Drive for failing to maintain lane of travel. Further investigation revealed the driver, identified as Herman Christian King, was wanted on felony warrants. The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association has named South Georgia State College’s Jalen King as the Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season. King, a 6’5” sophomore from Columbus, Ga., averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, one assist and one steal in last week’s win over Central Georgia Tech.
