Marvin V. Bookout, age 86, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at his residence. Mr. Bookout was born on January 19, 1935 in Broxton, Georgia, the son of the late George Arthur and Attie Armond Milsep Bookout. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Ettie Eugenia Bookout Vickers, four brothers, and three sisters. The South Georgia State College Hawks held the Central Georgia Tech Titans to 30 percent shooting and forced 24 turnovers to defeat the Titans 73-51 Wednesday night in a GCAA conference matchup. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is extending the deadline from March 5 to April 9 for agricultural producers to apply for the Quality Loss Adjustment (QLA) Program because of recent winter storms and some clarifications to program rules. A Coffee County man has been sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison after admitting to trafficking methamphetamine. Israel Moreno, 56, of Wray, Ga., was sentenced to 70 months in prison by U.S. District Court Judge R. Stan Baker after pleading guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute and to Distribute 50 Grams or More of a Substance Containing Methamphetamine, said David H. Estes, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. Mr. George Daniel Boatright, age 56 of Pearson, Ga., formerly of Homerville, Ga., passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021 at his home following a short illness. Born on July 23, 1964 to Mr. and Mrs. Wilford and Resa Lashley Boatright, Mr. Boatright worked as a truck driver until his health declined. In unrelated incidents, Coffee County authorities made arrests last week on charges of methamphetamine possession and financial transaction fraud. The Coffee County Drug Unit, the Douglas Police Department and the Department of Community Supervision executed a search at the residence of Paul Speakman on March 3. Speakman was located inside the home, where he was found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected methamphetamine and a firearm.
