David William Adams, age 55, of Broxton, Georgia passed away after a courageous battle with prostate cancer on Tuesday evening, March 2, 2021 at his residence. David was born on June 19, 1965 at Andrews AFB, Maryland the son of the late Cornelius and Thora Ward Adams. He worked with Premium Waters Inc. and Elixir Industries. He was a United States Army veteran with 22 years of service, retiring as a Master Sergeant. His service included deployments to the Sinai, Bosnia, and Kuwait. March 4, 2021, was an impressive day for the South Georgia State College Hawks. The Hawks defeated USC-Salkehatchie 10-1 for head coach Jeff Timothy’s 300th career win and freshman outfielder Logan Roberts hit for the cycle. He tripled in the second, homered in the third, singled in the fifth, and doubled in the seventh. Roberts finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored, four RBI and one stolen base. On March 3, 2021 the City of Douglas Wastewater Treatment Plant experienced a Total Suspended Solids (TSS) exceedance of 46 mg/L. TSS is the dry-weight of suspended particles that are not dissolved in a sample of water that can be trapped by a filter that is analyzed using a filtration apparatus. The reporting limit for TSS is 45 mg/L for a daily TSS sample. Coffee High senior Cameron Watson set a school record in the 800 meters at the Community Bank Invitational held last week in Fitzgerald. Watson’s time of 2:3.53 bested Kirby Merritt’s time of 2:7.5, which has stood since 2003. Applicants looking to sign up for Summer or Fall Semester can save money when they apply during Free Application Week at Wiregrass Tech. Free Application Week will be held on each campus March 22-26, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday. The City of Douglas Mayor and Commission has approved an extension for business owners to file for business license renewal until May 31, 2021. If not paid by June 1, 2021, business owners can expect to pay a 10% late fee penalty.
