Former Douglas Chief of Police (Ret) Clyde Purvis, age 82, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Chief Purvis was born on September 14, 1938, in Douglas to the late Quincey Purvis and the late Louise Smith Purvis. Chief Purvis was a member of the Georgia National Guard, Chief of Police for the City of Douglas, retiring after many, many years, but continued with law enforcement through the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department. The South Georgia State College Hawks erased a 14-point halftime deficit, forced overtime and defeated the Albany Tech Titans 81-75 Saturday afternoon to give head coach Cory Baldwin his 300th career win. A room full of community heroes gathered together at the Coffee Regional Medical Center EMS headquarters recently to celebrate Kaleb Davis at the request of his parents Larissa and Carl Davis. Each person in the room played an essential role in an emergency call on the summer evening of August 18, 2020. Heading to their favorite fishing spot on that late August afternoon, Kaleb (affectionately known as “Man” to his family) and his cousin were involved in a life-changing ATV wreck. As a result of the injuries sustained in the accident, Kaleb was left paralyzed from the neck down. …

New Hope Recovery Center, located on Ethel Street in Douglas, recently received a donation of a Nissan Armada from the parents of the late David Campbell. David managed New Hope Recovery for many years until he retired due to health reasons. Sadly, he passed away recently. His parents donated the vehicle, which will be used at New Hope Recovery in David’s memory. New Hope is a recovery house for men struggling with addictions to alcohol and drugs.
