Mr. Ronald Gene Rhymes, Jr., age 60 of Pearson, Ga., passed away, Friday, December 18, 2020 at his home, following an extended illness. Survivors include: Wife: Doris Stripling Rhymes of Willacoochee, Ga. Sons: Jeffery Wayne Rhymes and wife Pam of Douglas, Ga. Randall Rhymes and wife, Samantha of Pearson, Ga. Sean Rhymes and wife, Patricia of Jesup, Ga. Daughters: Shasta Seawright and husband Tim of Douglas, Ga. Mr. Luciano Gabriel Luna Rodriguez, 21 of Coffee County, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020. He is the son of Juan Manuel Villalobos and Lidia Celeste. Other than his parents Mr. Rodriguez is survived by his sisters, Dana Villalobos and Dayana Villalobos. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Funeral services will take place Monday December 21, 2020 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral & Cremation Services. Burial will be held at Satilla Memorial Gardens. Johnson Funeral & Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Over 600 South Georgia State College students have earned a spot on the Fall 2020 Academic Honors List, according to an announcement today by Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Robert Page. 160 students earned a spot on the President’s List, 197 on the Dean’s List, and 309 on the Academic Honors List. Mr. James Alvin Davis, age 81 of West Green, GA passed away Monday afternoon, December 14, 2020 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Davis was born September 5, 1939 to the late Hiram Davis and the late Sally Rachael Hartley Davis. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Frances Zanders Davis. In an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, all Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Campuses and Adult Education sites will be closed to the public beginning December 21, 2020 through January 8, 2021. Walmart Transportation has made a $50,000 donation to assist with the expansion of the Diesel Truck Maintenance program at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. In response to the generous donation, the college has named a classroom the “Walmart Diesel Technology Lab.” Walmart General Transportation Manager Bill Sleeth shared, “The industry is down 60,000 drivers right now. If current trends continue within eight years, there will be a shortage of 160,000 drivers. The industry is seeing similar shortfalls with qualified Diesel Technicians.
