Our staff has been very busy working with about 35 Cloverleaf 4-H members trying to help them get their speeches and posters ready for competition. Cloverleaf DPA is open to students in fourth through sixth grades. DPA is a 4-H competition where a student selects a project area, narrows down their subject, researches it, organizes their information, and writes a speech. The City of Douglas would like to notify citizens of a new four-way stop intersection located at the intersection of West Bryan Street and South College Avenue. The four-way stop signs have been added for public safety due to the increased volume of accidents at the intersection. To allow time for public education of the new four-way stop, citizens are urged to use caution at this intersection. Douglas-Coffee County Parks and Recreation will begin basketball registration for ages 5-17 on Monday, November 2, 2020. Safely returning to sports will include adhering to the strict safety protocols set forth by the State of Georgia. “We are eager for our participants to return to playing sports,” says Parks and Recreation Director Stevie Young. “We should be playing basketball soon, and parents should know we are taking all the safety precautions we possibly can to best protect players, parents, coaches, and anyone who may attend the games.” Parks and Recreation is looking at several alternatives to begin Basketball…
The Southern Georgia Regional Commission (SGRC) received the 2020 Aliceann Wohlbruck Impact Award from the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for the City of Douglas Sidewalk Master Plan. Earlier this year, the SGRC prepared a Sidewalk Master Plan for the City of Douglas at no cost to the community. The primary focus of the plan was to identify where sidewalks are non-existent or needed, prioritize the needs, and to seek funding opportunities. Nettie Jean Clements, age 79, of Nicholls, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Bacon County Hospital, Alma, Georgia. Mrs. Clements was born on January 14, 1941 in Coffee County, Georgia the daughter to the late Aaron Anderson and Mamie Lee Taylor Anderson. Mrs. Clements retired as a cook for Sumner’s Landing and Country Girl’s Café and was a member of Dry Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Clements; daughter, Kathy Lutrelle Clements; sister, Christine Anderson Bagley; and two brothers, Buster Anderson and Milford Anderson.…
The Lady Trojans wrapped up the 2020 season with a best of three series loss to Jones County, a team that lost in the finals to Locust Grove in 2019 and is favored to win the 2020 state title. Game 1 saw the Lady Trojans get no-hit behind the arm of junior righthander Destin Howard. In the fall of 2019, Moody Air Force Base (AFB) began discussions to expand its airspace due to the need for low altitude training for Moody aircrews. The City of Douglas needs public support to oppose the proposed plan to expand the operational airspace area for Moody Air Force Base because it will significantly impact regional airports and economic development in Douglas and surrounding counties. “We support our military and the viability of Moody AFB,” says Charles Davis, Douglas City Manager. “But not at the expense of the accessibility of our airports which are economic drivers for Douglas and…
